With its 133 new nurses, the Northern Christian College (NCC) once again proved its consistency in maintaining its students’ performance in the nursing licensure examinations. The NCC Batch 2008 nursing board passers ranked 3rd in the region under the Class C category in the November 2008 local board examination for nurses. For the first time the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) categorized the board examinees into three: categories A,B and C, according to the number of examinees. These institutions that belong to Class C are the schools that have more than 100 examinees. NCC notched a 60% passing rate for the fresh examinees, about 20% higher than the national passing rate. Overall, NCC has a total of 133 new nurses, the biggest number of board passers not only in the province but also in Region 1. In relation with this, the College of Nursing headed by Officer-in-Charge Preciosa Cadiz, held a motorcade for the board passers around Laoag City on March 5, 2009. All nursing students and faculty members of the College of Nursing joined the motorcade. After the motorcade, the new nurses were treated to a testimonial lunch by the college president, Dr. Caesar I. Agnir, at the New NCC Auditorium. The new nurses were recognized as NCC’s new breed of flagbearers (NBFB) by President Agnir, Dean Adela N. Agnir who is NCC’s consultant in nursing and nursing education, and Prof. Cadiz during the worship service on March 11, 2009 at the New NCC Auditorium. NCC slipped down one degree lower compared to the performance of last year’s batch of board passers, but Dr. Agnir expressed his happiness for the consistency of being on top and he was proud of what the nurses had done. He challenged the next batch of board examinees not only in the College of Nursing but also in the other departments to do better the during the next licensure examinations. # Giovanni M. Agustin.
